CPI-101 Computer-to-P-Phone Interface

The CPI-101 interfaces a Northern Telecom DMS-100 Centrex Electronic Business Service (EBS) telephone line to a computer system. It allows complete computer control of an EBS line.

The computer can originate and answer telephone calls using the CPI-101, which is designed to operate on an EBS line with an EBS telephone on the same line.

The CPI-101 allows a computer to:

  • Validate incoming caller ID (CLID)
  • Answer calls
  • Receive Touch Tone digits (DTMF)
  • Transfer / conference a call
  • Monitor feature key status
  • Simulate the pressing of any P-Phone key

The CPI-101 has an energy detector that enables the computer to determine which of the call progress tones are present on the line ringing, busy or dial tone.

This high impedance unit is designed to be connected in series with the M5xxx series EBS / MDC phone on an MDC line. It is intended for telephone application where voice access to the line is required. The Phone must be connected to the CPI-101 in order to properly terminate the MDC phone line.

Equipment Required

  1. Controlling PC with serial port
  2. Controlling software to suit the user's application (contact DPL for turn-key solutions)
  3. MDC/Centrex lines which have a single incoming number on Key 1, an enable display, and three way call conference (or fast transfer) on a feature Key. You may want to use a different MDC line configuration.
